A Festa do Divino Espírito Santo da Associção Portuguesa de Manitoba (APM) vai ser celebrada este Setembro no Parque Recreativo e Desportivo, Associação Portuguesa de Manitoba de Sábado 3 de Setembro-até Domingo 4 de Setembro, 2011. Este ano a festa tem a grande honra de ter como convidados especias o Arcebispo de Winnipep, Dom James Weisgerber e a Dra. Berta Cabral, Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada.

The Feast of the Holy Spirit will be celebrated this September at the Portuguese Recreational and Sports Park from Saturday September 3 to Monday September 5, 20011.This year the Feast will have the honour of having as special guests, the Most Reverend  Archbishop of  Winnipeg, V. James Weisgerber and  Dr. Berta Cabral, Mayor of the City of Ponta Delgada.

10:00 benção das pensões  seguida por bol0 de leite  e a repartição das pensões  pelas  ruas do parque , 17:00  reza do terço; 18:30 jantar  com a  dra. Berta cabral  e  convidades 

DOMINGO 4 DE SETEMBRO 
Missa, coroação , procissão e refeição ($10.00)

Origem das Festas do Divino Espírito Santo

A Festa do Divino Espírito Santo é uma das manifestações culturais e religiosas mais antigas de Portugal. Segundo os investigadores a sua origem encontra-se nas festas de colheitas dedicadas à deusa Ceres. A sua cristianização pode dever-se à Rainha Santa Isabel que lançou as bases do que seria a Congregação do Espírito Santo, movimento de solidariedade cristã . Há referências históricas que indicam que foi inicialmente instituída, em 1321, pelo convento franciscano de Alenquer sob proteção da Rainha Santa Isabel de Portugal e Aragão. De Alenquer, a  Festa  espalhou-se para todo o território nacional, onde hoje subsistem em Tomar (Festa dos Tabuleiros), no Vale do Tejo, Beira Baixa ou no Penedo (Sintra). Com os Descobrimentos, a Festa ganhou raizes em   todo o Império Português, tendo ainda hoje uma presença muito viva nos Açores, Madeira, Brasil, Estados Unidos da América (Hawai, Califorina & Nova Inglaterra), Canadá e por toda a Diáspora.
Nesta Festa de «Acção de Graças», nas quais a terceira pessoa da Santíssima Trindade  é festejada com banquetes coletivos designados “Bodo aos Pobres” com distribuição de comida e esmolas.  Os festejos do Divino Espírito Santo são marcados pela esperança na chegada de uma nova era para a humunidade, uma com igualdade, prosperidade e abundância para todos.

Origin of the Feast of the Holy Spirit

The Feast of the Holy Spirit is one of oldest the cultural and religious traditions of Portugal. According to researchers its origin lies in the harvest festival of the goddess Ceres. Its Christianization is attributed to Queen Isabel who laid the foundation of what became the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, a Christian solidarity movement. There are historical references that indicate it was first instituted in 1321 by the Franciscan convent of Alenquer under the protection of Queen Isabel of Portugal and Aragon. From Alenquer the celebrations spread throughout the country, and continue be celebrated to this day in Tomar (Feast of trays) in the Tagus Valley, Beira Baixa or Penedo (Sintra). With the Portuguese “Discoveries” of the new world, they spread to the entire Portuguese Empire, and today they have a strong  presence in the Azores, Madeira, Brazil, mainland United States and Hawaii, Canada and throughout the Portuguese Diaspora.

In this feast of "Thanksgiving", the third aspect of the Holy Trinity is celebrated with collective banquets called the “dinner of the poor” and the distribution of food and alms. The celebrations of the Holy Spirit are marked by hope for the arrival of a new era for humanity, with equality, prosperity and abundance for all.

Festas do Divino Espírito Santo Nos Açores

Nos Açores as Festas do Divino Espírito Santo remontam quando foram introduzidas nas ilhas aos inícios do povoamento no arquipélago. De lá, espalhou-se para outras áreas colonizadas por açorianos, como a Nova Inglaterra, nos Estados Unidos da América, e diversas partes do Brasil.Hoje elas constituem um dos principais testemunhos de fé do povo Açorianos. Todas as ilhas dos Açores têm a sua forma especial de celebrar estas festas,  mas podes destacar as Ilhas de Santa Maria, Terceira, São Jorge e o Pico onde o carácter extrovertido e festeiro do Açoriano se manifesta de uma forma mais vivida. Embora hajá apresentando características distintas em cada local, há em comum elementos como a pomba branca e a santa coroa, a coroação de imperadores e a distribuição de esmolas.  Em geral, a festa inclui  uma refeição especial de sopa de Espírito Santo e bolo de leite.

Feast of the Holy Spirit in AzoresIn the Azores, the Feast of the Holy Spirit date back to the beginnings of settlement in the archipelago. The settlers brought their traditional celebrations to the islands and from there it spread to other areas colonized by Azorean immigrants, such as the United States of America (New England, California, Hawaii) and various parts of Brazil. Today they constitute one of the chief exemplars of faith of the Azorean people. All the islands of the Azores have their own special way of celebrating the Feast, but the islands of Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico and São Jorge are especially noteworthy because of the animated and convivial nature of the Azorean people manifests itself more vividly. Although there are different characteristics in each location where the Feast is celebrated, there are common elements such as the white dove and the holy crown, the coronation of emperors and the distribution of alms as well as a special communal meal of soup and sweet “Holy Spirit” bread.

Este ano o Pavilhão estive aberto durante a primeira semana do Folkorama, Julho 31 - Agosto 6, 2011, no Centro Cultural, 659 Rua Young

This year, the Pavilion was open during the first week of Folkorama, July 31 to August 6, 2011, at the Cultural Centre, 659 Young Street.

O Pavilhão de Portugal foi mais uma vez um grande sucesso!

The Pavilion of Portugal was once again a great success!

O Pavilhão de Portugal 2011 oferece uma experiência maravilhosa para todos. Em 2011 o Pavilhão tem um novo programa, abrilhantado pelas artistas luso-canadianas, Sarah e Milú Pacheco. Mais uma vez a nossa cozinha é uma das estrelas do Pavilhão. Poderão escolher entre uma selecção deliciosa de pratos, aperitivos, e doces favoritos, incluindo, polvo, camarão, frango churrasco, chouriço/linguiça , bacalhau, rissóis, pasteis de nata, e muito mais. Estes podem ser acompanhados por um dos bom vinhos Português, vinho de Porto, cerveja Sagres ou Super Bock, ou um dos refrigerantes populares .

Venha participar nesta grande festa! Há boa comida e bebida, uma bem elaborada apresentação cultural sobre a diáspora portuguesa,  danças folclóricas muito animadas e coloridas, e as grandes vozes das talentosas artistas Sarah & Milú Pacheco.

The Portugal Pavilion offers a wonderful experience for everyone. In 2011, the Pavilion has a new program featuring the Luso-Canadian artists Sarah and Milú Pacheco. Again our kitchen is one of the highlights of the Pavilion. You can choose from a delicious selection of dishes, appetizers, and desert favorites, including octopus, shrimp, barbecued-chicken, Portuguese sausage, codfish patties, pastries, and more. These may be accompanied by one of the excellent Portuguese wines, beer (Sagres & Super Bock), or one of the popular fruit-based soft drinks.

Come join this great party! There is great food and drink, a wonderful cultural presentation on the Portuguese diaspora, lively and colourful folk dances, and the great voices of the talented artists Sarah & Milú Pacheco.
