Associação Portuguesa de Manitoba festejou os seus 50 anos de existência ao serviço da comunidade portuguesa.

Dia 05 de
Março a Associação Portuguesa de Manitoba festejou os seus 50 anos de
existência ao serviço da comunidade portuguesa com um extraordinário jantar de
gala.
Foi de
casa cheia que a Associação celebrou a sua língua e cultura com os espectáculos
do Rancho Juventude, do Rancho Alegria e a leitura do poema comemorativo do
cinquentenário da autoria de Maria José Correia.
A noite
foi também abrilhantada pelas actuações de José Alberto Palmeira, Sebastião
Vieira, Luís Salsa, Conjunto Alvorada, Tânia Sousa e João Pimentel.
Um dos
pontos altos da noite foi a projecção de um vídeo de memórias, produzido pelo
Diretor da Luso Can, Paulo Bergantim, que nos fez a todos viajar no tempo e
valorizar, ainda mais, o trabalho de todos aqueles que fundaram a Associação
Portuguesa, bem como todos aqueles que ao longo dos seus 50 anos de existência
perpetuaram o nome e a cultura de Portugal nas novas gerações.
Os
discursos de todos os elementos da direcção, muito especialmente do Sr.
Agostinho Bairos, foram de muita nostalgia, relembrando quem infelizmente já
partiu, mas quem jamais será esquecido, pela marca deixada nesta casa
cinquentenária.
Houve
também muito regozijo nas palavras de todos pelo trabalho feito ao longo destas
5 décadas.
A noite
ficou marcada também por 3 fortes discursos que marcaram os presentes.
O
brilhantismo das palavras, no poderoso e emocionante discurso do MP
Robert-Falcon Ouellette fizeram a sala silenciar-se e emocionar-se. O sempre
animado Councillor Mike Pagtakhan com as suas palavras de carinho pelo povo
português encheu a sala de aplausos. E o nosso honroso Cônsul honorário de
Portugal em Winnipeg, Paulo Cabral, deu um discurso brilhante sobre o passado,
presente e futuro da Associação Portuguesa, assim como as boas vindas a todos
os novos emigrantes que Winnipeg tem vindo a receber.
Em suma,
esta foi uma noite gloriosa, em que todos os envolvidos estão de parabéns pelo
trabalho efectuado. Desde dos mestre de cerimónias, Wilson Caetano e Célia
Caetano, elegantes e bem dispostos, que nos proporcionaram um serão muito
agradável, aos voluntários que elegantemente decoraram a sala, aos cozinheiros
que prepararam uma magnifica refeição, tudo foi preparado e apresentado com
muito amor e dedicação a esta Casa Portuguesa. Que venham mais 50 anos!

The Portuguese Association of Manitoba celebrated its 50 birthday with the Portuguese community of Winnipeg with an extraordinary gala dinner.
It was full packed house that celebrated the 50th anniversary and the Portuguese language and culture with performances by the Portuguese Folk Dance Group, Juventude and Algeria troupes and reading of a commemorate poem , by Maria José Correia.
Local performers José Alberto Palmeira, Sebastiao Vieira, Luis Salsa, Dawn Set, Tania Sousa and João Pimentel put on a wonderful show which added to the celebrations and made for very entertaining and lively evening.
One of the highlights of the evening was the screening of a video of some special moments and memories of the organization's past, produced by the Director of Luso Can Paul Brigantine, which made us all travel back in time and appreciate even more the work of those who founded the Portuguese Association, as well as all those who over its 50 years of existence perpetuated the name and culture of Portugal in the new generations.
The speeches of all the by various members of the current and past board, especially that by Mr. Augustinho Bairos were of nostalgia, and brought all the past directors and members who have left this world, but who will never be forgotten because of the imprint that they have left on the organization and survives to today.
There was also much joy and pride by the many words expressed noting and celebrating all the work that has been done and the many accomplishments achieved over the past five decades.
The night was also marked by three excellent speeches by invited guests that touched all that were present.
The brilliance of the words, the powerful and emotional speech by Robert Falcon-Ouellette, MP brought silence to the room, engaged and enraptured all present. The always lively Councillor Mike Pagtakhan with his words and expression of affection for the Portuguese people was appreciated by all and applauded with gusto. Lastly, the Portugal Honorary consul in Winnipeg, Paulo Cabral, gave a brilliant speech about the past, present and future of the Portuguese Association, and expressed words of welcome to all the new immigrants that have made Winnipeg and Manitoba their home.
In short, this was a glorious night, in which all that were involved are to be congratulated for their excellent work. From the elegant masters of ceremonies, Wilson Caetano and Célia Caetano, elegant and well arranged, to the volunteers who elegantly decorated the room, the chefs and their helpers who prepared a magnificent meal, everything was done and presented with love and dedication to this Portuguese home. To another 50 years!
